A Little Respect Featured On US And UK TV Shows

19 October 2001

A recent episode of the American NBC television show Scrubs, a comedy about young medical interns, heavily featured Erasure's A Little Respect song. Classixboy's posting on the Erasure.com discussion board explains how: "The show began with a senior surgeon requesting that the song be played while he operated. The young surgical intern and the patient on the operating table said that they both hated it. One scene later, the young intern (post surgery) catches himself singing the song and then stops himself with a remark such as, 'I gotta get that song out of my head - it's like a virus!' Anyway, as the show goes on, just about every major character sings a few bars of the tune...The song, it seems, is truly infectious. At the end of the show, as one of the young interns races to meet his romantic interest for a sexual rendez-vous, the original Erasure track kicks in." UK audiences also saw A Little Respect related happenings in an episode of Channel 4's student-based soap opera Hollyoaks. In one scene DJ Chloe devotes the song to "all the lonely people out there" because "everyone deserves a little respect." And all this when I thought the world had forgotten Erasure even existed...
